  • An antique peasant spinning chair in original green paint.

Circa 1890. The legs are original and delightfully expressive. There is a slight tilt to the seat which is intentional. Normally used on earthen floors by the spinner with her distaff. The peasant chairs of Transylvania play with anthropomorphic or zoomorphic suggestions in the carving of the back rest which give them the sense of character.

This one is unusually made of walnut and the patina and wear where it has been handled and sat upon is beautiful. It is a typical primitive variation on the Transylvanian stool. This also unusually has a makers stamp on the underside.
