A fantastic antique pop up anatomical diagram of the human head.

A fantastic antique pop up anatomical diagram of the human head. This has multiple layers presenting the inner working of the head.

Original antique anatomical manikin of the human head in a unique and very uncommon configuration. It was published in Leipzig Germany in the late 1890s by Deutsches Verlagshaus Bong & Co. It is different than the more common human head manikins in that it consists of multiple full-size plates, each of which contain smaller fold-outs detailing different anatomical systems.

The manikin starts with an outer layer showing the exterior of a man's face (Plate A). This folds out to reveal the heads circulatory system, including veins and arteries, on its backside (Plate B). The newly exposed layer details the muscular system of the head (Plate C), which contains a smaller flap that folds out to reveal part of the skull, as well as the muscles around the eye and ear. Two smaller flaps then each fold out further detailing the anatomy of the eye and ear. Plate C then folds out to reveal another layer detailing the brain and nervous system (Plate D). This plate also has smaller flaps that fold out to show the anatomy of the throat and windpipe and the inside of the skull. The last layer details the skeletal system (Plate E) and contains a large additional flap over the skull that folds out to reveal a medial view of the brain, including the Thalamus and other elements at its center.

    These illustrations are particularly charming.

It is in great condition Everything is intact and working as should.
